I admit the move was more challenging than expected. After 10 months, I have made few new friends. I went from working and hanging out with peers with whom I had a lot in common - to working with folks who are >10yrs younger.
About myself: I have discovered that I'm kind of a wuss when it comes to the wilderness outdoors. I found myself afraid of ticks, and the mosquitoes were fierce after the spring melt. Last week, on a late night drive North to see the Perseids, I couldn't get out of the car. Bats. Lots of bats.
In retrospect, I realize this is completely irrational thinking. Generally, bats don't attack people. In fact, they are helpful creatures - they eat bugs. And appartently, they have found respite in Upper Michigan; they nest in the old mines. Well, fear not! I will fear the bats no more!
